How fast do you fly when
taking photos?
The helicopter cruise speed is around 100mph, however while taking
photos I generally fly
between 30-50mph.
How high do you fly?
Around 300-500 feet above the ground (AGL) while taking photos,
and usually 500 AGL
while traveling between job sites. Some sites have required the
shots to be taken from as low as 100ft AGL and from as high as 2500ft
AGL.
What kind of helicopter
do you fly?
The helicopter was originally manufactured by Hughes Helicopter
Corporation and the model type is a 269B. It first went into production
back in the 1960’s, and is still manufactured today by the
Schweizer Corporation, model type 300.
How long have you been
flying?
I first got my airplane pilot license in 1974 and my helicopter
pilot license in 1985. I fly almost every day in either the helicopter
or airplane (sometimes both in the same day), and specialize in
aerial photography and aerial mapping.
What type of camera do
you use?
I am partial to Canon equipment. I use a EOS-1DS 17 mega pixel digital
camera with
a selection of lenses.
Do you ever take passengers?
No. Due to insurance reasons, we are unable to carry passengers.
Have you ever crashed?
No. But I have made a couple of emergency landings before with no
damage
to the aircraft or property.
